Attendance for the web meeting:
Ten employees/sub-contractors from AEP
Five volunteers from Meeks Mountain Trail Alliance
Call time: 68 mins
AEP spent some time describing the difference between transmission and distribution. They reviewed sub-station alternatives and are working two of those options. We learned this is a new substation addition and the other sub-stations will remain.
Summary of call:
-AEP is planning a transmission line for 69kv and within this right of way they can increase the transmission to 138kv. Nothing will prevent them from increasing beyond 138kv if a larger demand or replacement is needed
-it was evident based upon the gentlemen in Roanoke, VA as he stated, "we have a difference in philosophy on how green space can be used." It was his opinion; "green space is a good place to run transmission lines". We respectfully disagreed, but it was finally nice to have a candid conversation.
From this statement it confirmed our assumption they truly don't understand the compact design and unique use of our trail system. As a trail community it's our obligation to continue writing letters and sending photos of your experience on Meeks Mountain and what it means to you.
